Adjusting to Your New Braces

Image
Heather K. Burch Orthodontics You may not be excited to be getting braces, but before you know it…you will love your new braces. And soon you will realize your braces are working hard to help you achieve the smile you have always wanted. To help you get used to your new braces as quickly as possible, the team at Heather K. Burch Orthodontics recommends... Avoiding Sticky and Hard Foods. Braces are attached to your teeth with an adhesive that normally will withstand the forces of eating. However, braces can be dislodged and wires can be bent or broken when eating certain foods . For most situations, common sense will tell you what to avoid. Hard and sticky foods should be avoided as hard foods can break or damage wires and brackets and sticky foods can get caught between brackets and wires. Smooth Things Over. Although the brackets have been rounded and smoothed, until your cheek tissues have toughened, you may find it helpful to use a small piece of orthodontic wax around the ...

More Than Just Straight Teeth

Image
Heather K. Burch Orthodontics   At Burch Orthodontics , we believe that no matter what the reason for seeking orthodontic treatment, everyone deserves a beautifully straight smile. When your teeth are crooked, overlapped, or otherwise misaligned , you place an uneven amount of pressure when you bite down. That leads to pain, and it can cause your teeth to wear down, chip, and even break. Not only that, but poorly aligned teeth are also harder to clean properly which can lead to decay and gum disease. The benefits of braces go well beyond pure aesthetics. Braces have many positive side-effects. Better Breath - If you suffer from misaligned teeth you may also suffer from bad breath. When your teeth are crowded or crooked, adequately cleaning them becomes difficult. Having straight teeth makes it much easier to brush away the bacteria that causes bad breath. Reduced Risk of Bone Erosion - Misaligned teeth can result in jawbone erosion or bone loss. Bones and tissues are less...

In Line for Invisalign

Heather K. Burch Orthodontics   Typically when we think orthodontics, we think traditional metal braces. And while technology has made many advances in traditional braces…there are more options for achieving the smile you have always dreamed of. If you want a straighter smile but don’t want to spend years of wearing traditional metal braces, Invisalign is the perfect option for you. At Heather K. Burch Orthodontics , we are a top provider of Invisalign and have years of experience permanently correcting alignment issues in a shorter time than traditional braces. Invisalign takes a modern approach to straightening teeth, using custom-made aligners created for you and only you. These aligners are smooth and comfortable. Wearing the aligners will gradually and gently shift your teeth into place, based on the exact movements Dr. Burch has planned out for you. Not only is Invisalign effective, but the aligners are nearly invisible and can be worn without detection. This elimin...

The Clear Choice

Image
Heather K. Burch Orthodontics   Your appearance can make a big difference in your confidence, and a healthy smile is one of the first things people notice. And for kids and teens, the discomfort of traditional braces can add to an already stressful school experience. Dr. Heather Burch is dedicated to creating beautiful smiles with straighter teeth and good bites. One of the orthodontic treatment options offered at Dr. Heather K. Burch Orthodontics , includes Clear Braces.   Clear Ceramic Braces are perfect for adults looking to improve their smile yet steer clear of any noticeable differences that may draw attention to their mouth. Teenagers that already feel insecure about their smiles don’t want the look of metal braces either.   And while traditional metal braces are effective, most teenagers choose Clear Ceramic ...

Ageless Smiles

Image
Your teeth are probably the only thing on your face that won’t get wrinkles…but your teeth certainly do show signs of aging. So if you want to look younger and healthier, your teeth are a great place to start!   Burch Orthdontics Take 10 years off your appearance…no plastic surgery needed! Step 1   - Teeth naturally darken as we age. One reason is that your teeth absorb color from food and drinks. Even if you take fantastic care of your teeth, they will eventually yellow over time. Whitening your teeth with custom whitening trays is the best way to achieve a deep and thorough color change that can take years off your appearance. Step 2   - Even if you start out with perfectly straight teeth, something called mesial drift will cause them to shift over time.   Crowded teeth   are an instant giveaway of age and straightening your teeth can often take 10 to 15 years off your appearance. Crowded teeth also increase the risk of tooth decay, ...
